BYE THE BOOK
The search for a cure for multiple sclerosis begins as a noble quest, but quickly degenerates into greed: the insatiable hunger for more and more money, backed by murder. The executive/researcher whose dreams have become corrupted, learns that the statistical records, if presented to the authorities at the FDA would bring about the collapse of his house of cards, are in a book kept by a statistician whose murder he ordered. He must secure and destroy that book, even if it means more people have to die. Where will it end? As detectives Luis Ortiz and Fred Hodge investigate the homicides, they must race the clock to locate and save Kathryn DiAgostino, forensics investigator and Luis' love interest, who had been captured by the "hired gun" before his own death. As the detectives struggle to catch the mastermind behind the killing spree, will they rescue Kathryn before it's too late? The surprise at the end will catch the reader as off guard as the detectives. My fourth novel, Bye The Book, is now available for purchase. See how pure, unblemished ideals are soon corrupted into the sordid lust for riches. Advance praise for Bye the Book: From the moment Willie Blood finds the classy lady shot in her car, I was hooked. BYE THE BOOK starts with a prologue of Willie, a homeless, beggar who sees a car on Zack Street that he immediately remembered from the previous Thanksgiving when the lady gave him $5.00. Thinking she might be as kind again he goes to the car, but instead of a kind lady he finds a dead one. And from one murder scene to another, Detective Luis Ortiz is called out to a home where it looks too convenient to be a murder during the course of a robbery. But to Luis this just doesn’t seem right. The robbery seems staged. A neighbor had seen someone arguing with her prior to her death and he becomes the best suspect until he is found dead, another convenient death. Then life gets complicated for Luis when he has a blackout or fainting spell. The doctor thinks it might be the stress of the job or the case but Luis doesn’t think so. He has a new love in his life, Katherine and her children. Her husband had been killed earlier and every time Luis looks at their loving photo he gets a bad feeling. Luis links his murdered woman to a previous case, the one where Willie found the body in the nice car. What links them? Why? Luis visits the prison to talk to the man convicted of that lady’s murder. The convict continues to claim that he was high, but he did not kill her, and although he didn’t trust cops if it helped him get out of jail, he’d help Luis. Having been diagnosed with syncope and feeling great with the care Katherine gives, Luis asks her to marry him. She says yes. The next day after working to connect the dots on the cases, Katherine invites him to dinner but when he arrives, he immediately knows something is wrong. Things are knocked over in the house and there is some blood on the carpet. Fred, his friend and narcotics officer who returns to homicide and to being Luis’s partner is called. And then Luis receives a call from a man who has his lovely wife to be. Luis is challenged on every front, work, health, and love. BYE THE BOOK is a roller coaster of a thriller with deep dives and harrowing turns, not to mention twists at a fast paced speed. Once again Frank Caceres has written a riveting, can’t wait to read the next page novel. Each book by Frank just gets better and better. Frank’s characters are fun, real, sad in the true to the human condition way. He paints a beautiful mural with his words. You can clearly see the thoughts and actions of the characters and the action as if you are there. Wonderful! An excellent thrill ride. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5! Cynthia Lea Clark, Psy.D.
